π About Parker
Hi! I'm Parker. If you want to know what I've been up to lately, check out now!
I used to go by Patrick a long time ago, but I changed it because I love Spider-Man.
In Parker Chang's Web, "Web" means both a website and a spider's web.
I built this site in 2023 as a birthday present to myself. The first post was The Journey of Building My Own Site: Writing Motivation and Technical Choices. Before that, I mostly wrote casually on Medium and social media.
At first I wanted to write technical articles and reading notes, but I ended up writing more about life. The closest thing to a series is my yearly reviews. I plan to keep letting myself write whatever feels important at the moment.
I used to worry too much about writing, but as I wrote more and more regularly, writing slowly became part of my life. Receiving feedback from readers also gave me more motivation. Thank you to everyone who has ever shared thoughts with me: people from Crazy Writing, Twitter meetups, Substack comments and other platforms, and readers or friends who wrote to me directly.
You can subscribe to the RSS feed to get updates on new posts under life.
Background
I am a software engineer who switched careers from philosophy. You can read more about that journey in Reviewing My First Three Years as a Software Engineer.
In 2025, after hitting a wall in Taiwan, I quit without a backup plan and took working holidays in Australia and Japan.
I had once considered giving up on being a software engineer, but later realized I might simply have needed to step away and give myself some rest.
Once the anxiety and panic subsided, I was able to assess the situation more clearly. I came to see that while AI is having a tremendous impact, humans are still very much needed in the loop. After researching the job market in Japan, I found there were plenty of opportunities, along with a higher salary ceiling.
I decided to give it another shot in Japan, while continuing to actively explore different possibilities.
I was born in Taipei, Taiwan, but I do not really have a home in Taiwan. I wrote about my thoughts on home in After Becoming Homeless.
What I Like
- Writing. I deeply believe the person who benefits most from writing is the writer. I tend to think a lot, and writing helps me organize my thoughts. Sharing them also lets me connect with others, and I am very happy when an idea resonates.
- Stories. Experiencing different works is what I look forward to most and the fastest way for me to recharge, so I built a Works Database.
- J-Pop. I first encountered J-Pop through anime. My first concert was milet. I like Japanese concert culture, and you can read my J-Pop Live Log.
My Beliefs
- Sincerity. Every word here will be true. I only use AI for translation.
- Creation. It makes me feel that life has meaning.
- Courage helps me take the first step; hope helps me take the next one when I am in despair. (Digimon Adventure 01)
- Happiness is mostly something I can decide for myself, but I often forget that when I stay in toxic environments.
- Pain is not necessary. I need to practice telling which hardships are not worth enduring.
- Gratitude for everyone who keeps society running.
- Wealth does not bring happiness, but it can bring room to breathe.
- Comparison is the thief of joy.
- Experiences usually bring more satisfaction than material things.
- People are the ones who make things complicated. Truly capable people can always find a way to make things simple.
- The way to protect yourself is to know their methods first. "If corrupt officials are cunning, honest officials must be even more cunning." (Hail the Judge)
- Nothing I have should ever be taken for granted. Being able to gain something through effort alone is a privilege.
- It is never too late. "The best time to plant a tree was ten years ago. The second-best time is now."
About Support
Thank you for being willing to stop by my site in an age where attention is precious. You could have chosen social media, YouTube, or short videos, but you came here. I hope this place feels worthwhile and gives you something to take with you.
I am not trying to make a living from writing right now (really, I cannot), but if my work made someone want to buy me a boba, that would mean a lot.
To protect the reading experience, I do not place any ads on this site. BobaME also supports messages. If more messages come in, I will build a page here to mirror them.
I will keep thinking, improving, and asking what my work can bring to you. I may also start writing paid articles in the future.
